Day 3 – Your vote for the People’s Choice Award would help us impact more people
I would not be where I am today if it weren’t for the amazing people who have helped me along the way in building the eXmerce community over the past 13 years. I am grateful for all of my past and present staff. A big shout out to Kim Mark, Tong Cam, Patrick Chan, Ashley Kehler, Felix Chow, Andrea Wall, Lis Perez, David Wilson, Alex Cameron, Kelsey Chmieleswki, Lily Sokolov, Matthew Hull, Amit Sharma, and Kurstyn Maclellan. Each one of you has contributed to the success of our community and I sincerely appreciate it.
Hiring the right person is never an easy task. What’s helped me in the past is asking questions based on my personal values that I believed in. For example, what’s something you’ve done to pay it forward? or if you won a million dollars, what would you do with this money. If I asked this question, and someone had responded with the likes of charity, helping people who are less fortunate, or helping family – they’d get a checkmark from me. Sure, you can ask questions based on skillset but it’s just as important to find an individual that shares the same values as you.
I always believe in collaboration and empowering your people. I hire not only to fulfill a postion but to also help an individual grow on a personal level. If you treat people with care and respect, this will translate into higher productivity and most important your people will be happy. We spend a good portion of our lives working with our colleagues, so why not work in an environment where it’s fun to go to work.
Today, I am asking for your vote for the Calgary Chamber of Commerce People’s Choice Award because your vote would allow for us to continue to build our community, and allow for us to hire more people so that we can have a positive impact in their lives on both a professional and personal level.
